Each month Her. Wellbeing. provides you with a ‘Monthly Top 3’ List. This includes items, products, services, practices, or entertainment that are tried and tested and sure to boost your wellbeing!
My big focus throughout July has been taking care of myself with an all-natural, no-nasties approach, using products made consciously that are better for my health as well as the environment. Read on to hear about some gems I’ve discovered to add to my daily regime.
For those of you that have followed along with Her. Wellbeing. for a while now, you know that we are such a huge advocate of natural alternatives when it comes to skincare and haircare. I was excited when I discovered Nature’s Organics new range of plant-derived shampoos and conditioners, called My Soda. I have been a fan of Nature’s Organics for years now and am a dedicated user of their eco-friendly household cleaning products and laundry detergents.
I’ve always found the brand to be such a great quality, budget-friendly and accessible, being available at the supermarket.
There are three varieties in the My Soda haircare range- Smooth, Hydrate, and Cleanse. I was immediately drawn to the sleek packaging of the pretty aqua bottles. I then noticed that they are made with plant-based ingredients, formulated without the usual nasties in many haircare ranges, are certified vegan and cruelty free, and completely Australian made and owned. Absolute yes to all of this!
To be honest, I haven’t had the best luck in the past with all natural hair products. As much as I want them to work for my hair, I’ve never found a natural alternative that gives me the volume and shine that I love. My hair is very thick and long, and I need products that will leave it glossy, tangle-free and provide a bit of “oomph” without adding weight.
I went with the My Soda Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner, as hydrating products tend to leave my scalp too oily, and cleansing tend to dry out the rest of my hair. I was crossing my fingers that the Smooth products would tick all my boxes.
And I am so happy to report that this shampoo and conditioner really did impress! The scent is just so gorgeous and playful. It is sweet and fruity, and my children commented on how good my hair smelt after using it! So much so that I have gone out and bought them their own bottle to use, because I didn’t want to share mine.
But what I love most about My Soda is that it genuinely works for my hair. Other natural brands I have tried failed to lather up (which is a deal-breaker for me!), but this shampoo had such a great instant lather and really left my hair feeling fresh and clean. And the conditioner just left it feeling so silky.
Most importantly, once my hair is dry, there is absolutely no frizz in sight. It is bouncy, glossy, and just really feels lush to touch. To get this kind of result in the past, unfortunately natural shampoo and conditioner just did not cut it, and the ones that did give this kind of result cost way more than $10 a bottle!
I absolutely adore the ethos behind this brand, and the fact that not only are they conscious of producing good quality natural alternatives, but they are eco-friendly as well. The packaging is made from recycled plastic, and they also sell pouches of your favourite product to refill your existing bottles when they run out, a system designed to reduce plastic waste by 80%.
I honestly can’t recommend them enough, just knowing I’m going to get the results I want from a plant-derived product, that won’t cost the Earth (in every sense) is just amazing. These are definitely my new go-to haircare products now, and I’m so confident in them that I use them on my children as well.
My Soda haircare is currently available at Woolworths nationally. Do your hair (as well as your senses) a favour and try them out next time you’re picking up a couple of things!
Another natural brand that I’ve discovered this month is By Nature, a New Zealand skincare brand offering budget and eco-friendly products. Their philosophy is that natural skincare should be accessible to everyone wanting to reduce their exposure to toxins, with all their products being paraben and chemical-free.
I’ve been noticing smile lines around my eyes becoming more permanent lately, and my eyes tend to show any lack of sleep or tiredness through puffiness. I’ve heard great things about the positive effects of caffeine in eye creams for reducing fine lines and tightening skin, yet others that contained caffeine always seemed to have other nasty ingredients that I wasn’t willing to use. Then I found this little gem, which also contains hyaluronic acid, a natural ingredient renowned for helping the skin’s moisture levels and elasticity that naturally deplete as we age.
I’ve been using the eye cream for over a month now and can honestly say that I’m impressed with how my eyes seem less puffy, and lines seem to have smoothed out a little. It is a thicker consistency, which I think is great for my Winter skincare routine, and it slides on and sinks into the skin almost instantly.
Their packaging is also made from sugar cane and is 100% recyclable, meaning that it is so much better for the planet too.
This one is a keeper, and I love that it makes a noticeable difference to my skin and is budget friendly as well. They have an extensive range of skincare that I can’t wait to try out after such a positive experience with their eye cream. I picked up mine from Big W here in Australia, and you can also purchase them online.
So, I bought these chocolate bliss bites for my kids and ended up devouring most of them myself- they are SO good! Created by Health Lab Kids, these bites are the perfect size for snacking, and are completely guilt free. Ingredients include dates, organic coconut, raw cacao, organic coconut oil, pumpkin seeds, and Bacillus Coagulans (probiotics). I love that they have minimal ingredients but are totally packed with flavour, and that they include probiotics which are very much welcomed to help our wellness and gut health.
I am a self-proclaimed chocoholic, and these bites have totally saved me to succumbing to way too much chocolate in one day lately! Whenever the cold weather hits my cravings for chocolate (comfort) skyrocket, and these bites totally satisfy that craving whilst also being more nourishing for my body. I have ended up buying them in bulk so I can have my own stash as well as the kids! I have one with my coffee for morning or afternoon tea and they feel totally indulgent!
If you love chocolate and are looking for a healthier substitute, definitely give these a try.
